Winter Self Care Tips

Brown Girl Beauty intern Tara shares her favorite self care tips for the winter.

With this winter season, let's talk about how to practice good self care tips not just physically, but mentally as well. Here are some of my favorite ways to take care of myself to make this winter season a little less gloomy:

Read, read, read!

Here are some of my picks this winter:

“Educated” By Tara Westover; Genre- Biography

“The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*uck” By Mark Manson; Genre- Self Help

Meditate

Mediation is a great way to clear your mind and cultivate calm. I like to use the Insight Timer App to look for short, guided meditations. Headspace is also popular, and you can find lots of meditations for beginners on Spotify and Youtube for free!

Keep a Journal

You don't have to write in it everyday, but journaling is a great way to express your thoughts and build focus by getting rid of mental clutter.

Recommendations to begin journaling:

Question a Day- 5 year journal

Start a video journal with 1 Second Everyday.

Keep a gratitude journal.

Some ways you cam take care of yourself physically:

Exercise!

Go on a long walk with a friend.

Dance! Try following this video for a fun dance workout.

Get outdoors!

Remember to Social Distance

In order to stay healthy and safe during the pandemic, it is imperative to physically distance from others. You can still hang out with people in safe ways and be active while doing it. Try getting outside and taking walks with friends!

Learn Healthy Recipes

Learn to make delicious healthy recipes. This is my current favorite food blog.

Go on a Trader Joes run and grab some of their frozen meals (I'm a fan of their Cauliflower Gnocci!)

Try this delicious smoothie recipe.

Connecting with Others Virtually

Online Game Nights

Even though you may not be able to see each other physically, you can still find ways to (virtually) connect with your friends and loved ones. Try having an online game night!

Try Jackbox games, Codewords or Scribble!

Get Outdoors!

Some ideas to see your friends and follow CDC guidelines:

  • Outdoor bonfires - the perfect way to stay warm and hang out while socially distancing!
  • Have a scavenger hunt with friends or siblings!
  • Drive-in movies - Covid-19 has brought back drive in movies, the perfect socially distanced activity!
